喜羊羊与灰太狼

I can vividly recall often watching the Chinese cartoon “喜羊羊与灰太狼” (Xǐ yáng yáng yǔ huī tài láng) with my older sister during elementary school. This cartoon is a very valuable part of my childhood and I hope to bring back nostalgic memories for those of you who have watched it as well.

Firstly, for those of you who’ve never heard of this cartoon before, its general plot follows a wolf couple who attempts to capture a village of sheep everyday. Each episode follows a unique attempt of the husband wolf, who is in charge of capturing the sheep. Each day, he returns unsuccessfully home to his wife who hits him with a steel pan.

The village of sheep is composed mostly of 5 characters: 喜羊羊 (happy sheep), 美羊羊 (pretty sheep), 懒羊羊 (lazy sheep), 沸羊羊 (strong sheep, and 村长 (leader sheep). Each of these sheep have defining characters and play a different role. For instance, 喜羊羊 (happy sheep) is usually the sheep that is able to fix the problem and save the day, while 懒羊羊 (lazy sheep) is usually a character that is there for comedic purposes.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this trip down memory lane. And if you’ve never watched or heard of this show before, I hope you’ll like this clip below!

My goodness this was my obsession when I was little. I used to have the clothes and fans that they sold on the streets of China. This was my all time favorite show, even better than the ones in America. It’s an unforgettable memory.
