Student Ambassadors

Welcome to the Ambassadors homepage! Here, you’ll find students from all over who are leading chapters of The Daily China in their school in order to provide a fresh and novel approach to the Chinese culture. See below for more information.

Nicole Donelan is a junior at Oceanside High School and is thrilled to be representing The Daily China in her school. Nicole is currently preparing to take AP Chinese in her senior year after practicing the language since 7th grade. As an aspiring political science major, she is particularly interested in China’s politics and government and its impact on Chinese culture. Nicole hopes to one day visit China to explore its language and culture even deeper.


Sofia Pesantez is a junior at Hewlett High School and she is so excited to promote The Daily China in her school! Sofia is currently enrolled in Chinese 4H and is planning to take AP Chinese in her senior year of high school. She has been studying Chinese since 7th grade, and she hopes to continue her Chinese studies in college as well. Sofia visited Beijing, China in the summer after her sophomore year, and she fell in love with the language and culture even more. Sofia hopes to promote the Chinese language to the younger generation in her school district.


Brendon Lau is in 9th grade at Herricks High School. He has learned to speak Chinese from his grandparents and started formally learning Chinese in 6th grade. He loves to share Chinese culture and has been recognized as an icon of Chinese culture through the Joyous String Ensemble by MOCA, Pulitzer prize winner and Chinese culture activist Du Yun, and has also played in many Chinese T.V. shows and concerts including 天天向上,the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra concert hall, 神奇的孩子,Steve Harvey’s Little Big Shots, and for President Obama at the 2015 National Tree Lighting Ceremony. He hopes to be able to continue to share Chinese culture and continue to tour around the world with the Joyous String Ensemble.

  • Students who will dedicate 1-2 hours per week
