Badminton: The Beloved

Sports are a popular pastime worldwide- and China is no exception. The Chinese play a variety of sports in their leisure, ranging from basketball to table tennis to soccer. One sport, however, is particularly well-liked in this East country: badminton. Around a hundred million people in China partake in the sport of badminton. Chinese culture takes pride in its success with the sport on the global stage.

The main objective of badminton is to hit the shuttlecock over the net with a stringed racket. A shuttlecock is a lightweight cone-shaped object, consisting of a rounded cork and feathers attached. It can be played in singles or doubles. A point is won if the opposing team fails to return the shuttlecock, if it goes out of bounds, or if it hits the net. The game is usually won when a team reaches twenty-one points with two clear points ahead. Badminton consists of many other rules, making it an exciting, fascinating sport to play.

China produces some of the world’s best badminton players. One notable player from Hubei, China is Chen Long, also known as “Little Dan.” He is currently ranked fifth worldwide and is the reigning Olympic champion and two-time World champion and All England champion. He began playing at eight years old and has accumulated 441 career wins. Another prominent Chinese badminton player is Lin Dan, who is regarded as the greatest singles player. He is a two-time Olympic champion, five-time World champion, and six-time All England champion. He has a total of 666 wins and is known for his risky shots.

Badminton is regarded as an important and beloved sport in the nation. The Chinese government supports badminton men and women programs, covering athletes’ training, housing, and meals. It is well-promoted in the country, whereas badminton keeps a lower profile in western countries.

This was a very interesting article to read. Badminton is one of my favorite sports to play and watch, but I didn’t know much about it, such as any of the notable players, like Little Dan or Lin Dan, or how revered the sport is in China. The fact that over 100 million people in the country play it is very surprising to me, 100 million is quite an enormous number of people! Thank you for sharing!
