After five long years of construction and an 80 billion yuan ($11 billion) investment, China finally opened the Beijing Daxing Airport on September 25th, 2019. With an indoor area of 700,000 sq m (7.5 million sq ft) and a total area of 47 sq km (18 sq mi), it is the largest airport in the world. Furthermore, its sleek and efficient design coupled with its plethora of offered services promises great potential in it also becoming one of the best airports in the world.
Originally built to ease the traffic endured by its neighbor the Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA), Daxing Airport is projected to handle 45 million passengers annually, with the numbers increasing to 100 million by 2040. Although it is 46 km (28.5 mi) away from the center of Beijing, airport express trains have been designed to leave every six and a half minutes on a 19-minute journey to the capital center.
Daxing Airport is also visually stunning. There are five traditional Chinese gardens placed at the ends of halls, with four different levels in order to ease traffic. Playing with modern, abstract architecture, the airport was designed to feel spacious and calming for tired passengers.
Daxing Airport has been estimated to create a whopping 600,000 jobs. Over 70 different restaurants will open inside, along with tea and coffee shops. Moreover, 36 international brands will be represented in stores within the airport.
In addition, the largest hotel airport worldwide will also be located within Daxing Airport, taking up two floors and 9,000 sq m (almost 100,000 sq ft). Its 215 rooms can be rented for 3, 6, 9, or 12 hours so that day fares are not necessary. Several luxury rooms are offered, from a game room (pictured above) to a 36-person VIP conference room.

I learned that this new, beautiful airport is now the largest in the world, occupying 18 square miles! I also learned that this airport had originally been built to help ease the traffic from Beijing Capital International Airport. Wow, that was one massive airport you just described! I wish that JFK had created some sort of building like that! I hope the game room has some amazing arcade machines! I may want to travel here in the future, but staying here can be a bit expensive. If the airport were to expand once more, they should build an aquarium with rare and gigantic fish such as whale sharks, or a climate-controlled greenhouse that features flora and fauna of China’s bamboo forests. This way, people can enjoy loads of fun in one place! This concept can also be used in space travel.
