China’s Importance in the Airplane Industry

China plays an interesting role in the airplane industry. Its booming population and growing cities create a large demand for airplanes for its major airlines. Unlike other countries like the United States, China’s government holds the majority stake in these major airlines, which creates a major buying power in this industry. This makes the country increasingly valuable to companies like Boeing and Airbus. Both are attempting to gain market dominance over the other in this highly profitable region. China’s growing airline industry also creates higher demands for airplanes than other countries. Its airline industry is expected to account for around 20% of the global fleet by the year 2037, according to Boeing. Even with damaging impacts of COVID-19, the Chinese market is expected to buy 1.8 trillion dollars worth of aircraft by 2037. This is largely due to the fact that while other countries have struggled with their response to COVID-19, China’s response was quick and robust, causing domestic travel in China to return to normal levels. To both Boeing and Airbus, China’s huge market makes it extremely valuable.

But these companies are not the only ones who know the value of the Chinese market. A new Chinese aircraft manufacturing company, called COMAC, has been recently selling their aircraft to multiple airlines across China. This creates a large threat to Boeing and Airbus. As of right now, Airbus and Boeing essentially form a monopoly over the aircraft industry. Most planes in service are using Airbus or Boeing airplanes. With the development of COMAC’s brand new planes, these company’s dominance is being threatened. If COMAC were to establish a foothold in the Chinese market, this would certainly threaten the profits for both Airbus and Boeing. Even further, COMAC is a state owned company, which would make it more desirable to the state owned Airlines. In the future, the value of China’s market value will continue to increase, and become more desirable.

Amazing explanation about China’s margin on the aircraft industry as a whole, I never knew they had this much of a significance but noted that they were a major player. China has shown time and time again that they are able to take the world by storm when it comes to the infrastructure and manufacturing required to compete and make better products for cheaper. They pose as a competitive contender to big names like Boeing and Airbus due to the competitive prices they provide when it comes to the manufacturing of these aircraft providing buyers of planes with much more options on the global market. Great work.

I liked what you wrote about China’s involvement in the aircraft industry. I didn’t know China was that big in the aircraft, but it is to be expected. Good work on your article.

Great article Ethan. While I knew that companies like Boeing and Airbus had a monopoly, I had no idea about COMAC, and I certainly agree that China has huge significance in the transportation industry. I hope that in the future they will be able to allow for a more diverse market and give Asia a spot to compete with American and European aerospace companies.

Great explanation of the airline market in China. It’s interesting to see the differences in the publicly owned airlines around the world and the state owned airlines in China. I also never knew that their was another airplane manufacturer called COMAC. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll be able to out compete the already established giants and whether the state supported airlines would prefer them over the other two.

Nice article, Ethan. Boeing and Airbus are certainly large companies that have a shot of taking over markets in China. It’s interesting that the Chinese government holds a majority stake in major airlines. It’ll be even more interesting to see if this will play a role in their producer decision. Choosing COMAC would allow the government to benefit it’s own economy. Gaining a foothold in this market provides promising opportunities.

It was interesting to see how competitive China is in the airline industry, and how the government holds the large majority of the stake in these companies. I also was surprised that China was continuing to produce so many airplanes even during the pandemic. It was also interesting to note how COMAC is trying to establish its own market in China, as this may have a large impact on the other production companies that are competition with it. I never knew that China has a growing demand for the airplanes more than the other countries.

Very nicely written article. I found this article very interesting. I never knew that China had such a large air-travel industry, and what an impact it has on the world. China has made several technological advancements over the years and are leaders in many technology fields, so it was intriguing to read about their impact on airlines and airtravel.

It’s so interesting to see how China’s growing economy is affecting the airline industry. They are obviously taking great strides in technological advancements and it won’t be surprising to see them comprising more of the global fleet in a few decades. It was also interesting to read more about COMAC and how it will do in the future.

  14. Tyler Lin

It is very interesting to see how China’s large economy is affecting the airline industry! I found it really interesting that China had such a large airline industry and really opened my mind about how successful China is doing right now,

  15. Kenneth Lee

It was very interesting to read about China’s aircraft industry. I never knew that China had a very large aircraft industry.

  17. Umair Syed

I’ve never before put much thought into the aircraft industry and I’ve definitely never thought about China’s role in it. I think that it’d be nice if COMAC were to break the monopoly that Airbus and Boeing have on the industry. Maybe it will lead to better airplane prices.

  18. Josephine Soong

Wow, I never knew that Boeing and Airbus had such dominating influence over the airplane industry! Your insight into COMAC’s increasing “threat” to other Western airplane companies was very intriguing. Also, I like how you bring in the appeal of state-run companies to state-owned airlines as a factor to their “threat” status to companies such as Boeing and Airbus. I can tell that you have very thorough knowledge of economies in general, great job!

  19. Camryn Yum

It’d really cool how China has such a big airline industry. It’s great that the country is doing so well.

  20. Morgan Park

Great article! I found this article very informative because I never would have thought that China’s involvement in the airplane industry is that big. This brings lots of questions as to what will happen in the future. Great job

  21. Angelina Kwong

I’ve learnt a lot from this article. I didn’t know about how the government holds majority of the stakes. I have also heard of the aircraft manufacturing company, COMAC, but I didn’t know that it posed a threat to Airbus and Boeing.

  22. Madison Lee

I thought that your article was well put together and very interesting. I did not know this information about airplanes in China. I learned about the importance of efficiency in airplanes and airports in China.

  23. Edward Paik

Thanks for the article! My idea of the airline market in China has definitely expanded. I was interested to see the differences in the publicly owned airlines around the world and the state owned airlines in China. COMAC seems to be a rising name that I learned in reading your article as well.

  25. Grace Zhang

Interesting article! I didn’t know how important the airline industry was to China. It’s fascinating to learn about the details on the Chinese market, especially during times of COVID-19.

  26. Ryan Lam

This was an enlightening article as I have no knowledge about the airplane industry. I was surprised to see how much China is involved with the airplane industry. I liked how you put in statistics that helped me understand the rate of grwoth of China’s airplane industry. It was also cool to learn about a new company, COMAC, because it will probably impact China in the future.

  27. Jay Pierre

Wow! What an interesting read! The government’s stake in the airline industry and the global prominence of China’s airlines are both very interesting!

  28. Yaseen Ahmad

Great article! This article is very interesting and states a tremendous amount of information about China’s importance and influence in the airplane industry. I was also fascinated by the fact that China’s airline industry is expected to account for around 20% of the global fleet by the year 2037. This is a huge achievement for the Chinese airplane industry because during this Global pandemic many other countries had struggled with their response and how to handle their airplane industry.

  29. Ethan Zhu

This article was really well written with the amount of information that is provided. I never knew about how much the government held in stakes, so this was a surprise to read about. This does bring more acknowledgment towards how thriving the Chinese market is right now during a pandemic.

  30. Joy Huang

Great article! This was super interesting how big the industry is as well as how big of a stake the government has over it.

  31. Ethan Wang

Wow great article. This was super interesting about the how much influence the Chinese government had on the airplane industry. I’ve always been interested in this topic, and I do think you could’ve brought up perhaps the fact that China is also beginning to establish a dominance in the Airline regulation industry. I still thought the article was very interesting. Good job.

  32. Renee Lin

This article is very interesting but I think also expected. China has one of the largest populations therefore Chinese Airlines would have a lot of people flying within and out of the country. This is also my first time hearing about COMAC. It is interesting how this company has such a threat on western airlines.

  33. Norman Pang

I admire China’s response to Covid-19 and which America had done the same. Both outbreaks happened around the same thing while one country is completely safe without the need for masks anymore while the other is still in half lock-down. Just goes to show how different the outcomes can be from different government response. Interesting to see how successful COMAC would be in this highly competitive and well-established market of the airplane industry.

  34. Albert Luan

    COMAC新兴国产飞机品牌一旦在中国开始广泛推广将会威胁到波音和Airbus公司在中国的收益。当然既然是国家品牌自然会受到国人的青睐。

  35. Adil Kadirov

Very interesting article, it is good to see that China has a big involvement in the airplane industry and how they advance in their technology to benefit the travel of others and even brings interest in China’s airline .

    我觉得在往后的日子里人们会逐渐抛弃汽车和公交车这种交通工具然后转变成为在空中行驶的交通工具。

It was fascinating to see how dynamic China’s airline industry is, and how the government owns a significant portion of these businesses. I had no idea that China has a higher demand for airplanes than the rest of the world. It was also fascinating to learn more about COMAC and its future prospects.

  40. Sujay Sundar

I really like airplanes and airlines. I have been on many planes before, but I never knew China had their own airplanes. And to see Boeing and Airbus making use of China is great. Chinese is an incredibly huge market and COMAC is also very great.

I know most of there plains are made by boeing. But I do not think that they are going to keep buying from them after all this problems they are having. I am also pretty sure that there are a few Chinese companies that are working and making there own plains and the Chinese government has given them money so I doubt they are going to keep buying boeing plains.

  42. Yaqoub Ahmad

    我觉得那个是很好因为那帮人旅行容易的。我也觉得是很多的国没有很好的飞机所以中国会帮他们。那个也帮中国会做钱。

  43. William Liu

As a country with a very large population of over 1 billion people, there is no doubt that it houses one of the largest global markets and that results in increased buying power for the consumers (or companies). Boeing and Airbus have always been the sole competitors of the aviation industry and market but as COMAC develops into a larger company, it will rival the two aerospace companies and might possibly overtake the markets in China. Although COMAC is relatively new and unknown, I am almost certain that a state owned company will thrive in its own country of origin. If you have learned about the trade wars that have been occurring all throughout history, everyone knows that a country prioritizes the growth and prosperity of their own companies over foreign ones.

    我以前读这个article我不知道。我常常上飞机去旅行。我读这个article学很多。
