Chinese Fables!

Hi everyone! Today’s post is going is an example of a couple of Chinese fables. Chinese stories, although they might seem silly, usually have morals within them. Let’s get started!

“Plucking up a crop to help it grow.”

In Ancient China, there was once an old farmer who grew rice. However, this man was very impatient and short tempered. Every time he came to check on how the rice crop was doing, it looked the same to him. The farmer came home very frustrated every day because he did not see any drastic results in his crops. One day, he suddenly came up with a “brilliant” idea. “What if I help the crops out a little?” he thought. He ran quickly to the fields and plucked each and every rice crop up a few inches. Although this took a very long time, after he was finished, the farmer was very pleased with himself and went back home. However, the next day when he went back to check on his crops, to his dismay, all of them had died.

The lesson here teaches us to let everything run its natural course.

“The fox borrows the tiger’s terror.”

One day, an unlucky fox came upon a tiger that was hunting for his next meal. Even though the fox knew that his fate was death, he decided to think of a plan to get him out of trouble. The fox made a pact with the tiger. The fox declared, “How dare you attack me! Don’t you know who I am? God had chosen me to be the king of the forest. If you kill me, you will be going against God. If you don’t believe, follow me around the forest and you will see that all of the animals are scared of me!” The tiger was surprised, since nobody had ever spoken to him like that before, but he agreed. As the fox walked proudly through the forest ahead of the tiger, as you may guess, the animals, upon seeing the tiger, all ran away. The fox then arrogantly said to the tiger, “See? What did I say?” The tiger acknowledged this and the fox survived.

This story is used to describe people who take advantage of others or use other people’s power for themselves.

That’s it! I hope everyone enjoyed these short stories and also keep the important lessons in mind. Talk to you guys next week!
