Delicious Chinese Snacks

I love eating snacks! They are tasty and provide the extra bit of energy I need to get through the day. I know a lot about American snacks, so I was interested to learn more about the snacks eaten in China. Here are five of the most common Chinese snacks:

  1. Want Want Senbei Rice Crackers

This snack is a delectable rice cracker sprinkled with a special seasoning. They typically come in packages of two. I love that the seasoning of these crackers has a great contrast between sweet and salty. I was first introduced to this snack by my Chinese teacher in eighth grade, and since this has become one of my favorite Chinese snacks!

  1. Jelly Snacks

These snacks come in a great variety of flavors and are made by many different companies. I have never had the pleasure of trying this snack, but the pictures definitely make it look delicious. These snacks are sweet, colorful, and fruity jellies that usually come in small cups or tubes.

  1. Spring Onion Crackers

These tasty crackers are buttery crackers with added scallion or green onion. They are one of my personal favorites and a staple for Chinese snack enthusiasts. These crackers come in a variety of ways, and are made by many different companies.

  1. Pocky

Although Pocky is traditionally from Japan, it is very popular in China. I found this very interesting because Pocky is also very popular in America. Pocky is a sweet straw shaped biscuit that is coated with a variety of cream toppings including chocolate, strawberry, and matcha.

  1. White Rabbit Candy

I was first introduced to this snack when my father brought it home from one of his business trips to China, and I immediately fell in love with its sweet and milky taste! This snack is so popular in China that there are White Rabbit pop-up stores and merchandise. This candy is a chewy sweet milk flavored treat that is wrapped in a thin layer of edible rice paper.

I’ve actually have had some of these Chinese snacks before, and they are my favorites. I have not tried the jelly snacks yet but, I’ve heard really good feedback about them.

I have had some of these snacks before, and they are quite delicious! My personal favorite is Pocky. My siblings and I love to share these sweet treats and try all the flavors we can! I was also introduced to the white rabbit candies during Chinese class here at Jericho. They are quite popular, which makes sense as they are super sweet and yummy. The rice paper layer is so cool! Thanks!

I’ve tried all of these snacks apart from the Sprint Onion Crackers but I hope i’ll try one someday. My personal favorite is definitely the Want Want Senbei Rice Crackers. They are so savory and have just the right amount of salt in them.

I have had some of these snacks before and I love them. I haven’t tried the white rabbit candy or the rice crackers but I’m looking forward to trying them later on in life. I really want to travel to China or Japan some day so I can try some new foods and learn about Chinese or Japanese culture.
