From Poverty to Stardom through League of Legends

Tang Huan-Feng is currently playing for Suning eSports at only the age of 19. However, the young gamer was not always a professional ADC (Attack Damage Carry) League Of Legends player for Suning.

Tang Huan-Feng grew up in 东兴 (Dōngxìng) and was abandoned by his parents at the age of 12. His parents were not financially well off and therefore often argued about money. Tang Huan-Feng would need to learn how to fend for himself, living alone for three years. He sometimes would only have a water bottle and two steamed buns to consume because his father only provided him with 200 yuan (29 USD) every month. Despite all adversity, Huan-Feng was at the top of his middle school class and playing at an extremely high level in League Of Legends.

Huan-Feng was able to reach Masters rank with 300lp, an unachievable task for many as it requires one to be in the top .06 percentile of players. Huan-Feng dropped out of school and applied to countless eSports teams with the dream of playing pro. However, some of the organizations he contacted did not respond or considered him too inexperienced to play as a pro. After a long search, he found an internet cafe owner who wanted to start a team. The pay was only 3000 (432 USD) yuan a month, but the job required him to practice all day. Huan-Feng and his first-team qualified for the 2018 LDL Spring Split through hard work and dedication, but the team owner decided to sell their qualification to another team for cash instead of letting the team play. Huan-Feng was frustrated by the loss of this opportunity and quit in order to find another group. He was able to join the team WuDu and secure a 3rd place spot in the 2018 Summer LDL Split. However, Huan-Feng and his team had another problem. Since his team did not compete in the Spring Split, they did not have enough points to participate in the finals.

However, Invictus Gaming recognized his potential and allowed him to play on their secondary team, Invictus Gaming Young. It would be on Invictus Gaming Young where Huan-Feng’s success would take off. Huan-Feng’s coach, GuoKui, publicly commended him as the most hardworking player on the team and claimed that he sometimes even missed dinner to get in extra practice. Huan-Feng played League Of Legends from 5PM-6AM every day to work on his skills and did so on little sleep. His perseverance would pay off when Invictus Gaming Young won 18-6 and advanced to the 2019 LPL Summer Playoffs. While Huan-Feng was in the top percentile of players, he was still only a semi-pro. The Summer LPL would be his first chance to play on the big stage with the pros. Unfortunately, Huan-Feng failed miserably due to high stress and was ready to give up. When Huan-Feng was ready to quit, his coach GuoKui forced him to continue tryouts to seek a professional team that he could play on. It would be at this moment that Suning allowed him to try out for their team, an opportunity that would change his future. Huan-Feng would play his first few games for Suning and display enormous potential.

Now, Huan-Feng is currently competing at the 2020 League Of Legends World tournament and is a semi-finalist. What a long way Huan-Feng has come. From a child who had nothing to one of the world’s best ADCs in League Of Legends.
