National Day of The People’s Republic of China

About National Day

Chinese National Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the founding of People’s Republic of China. This holiday is celebrated annually. It is a one week long holiday, and starts on October 1st and ends October 7th. This significant period of time is known as the golden week. It is the biggest week for tourism in China because some people have a week off of work to reunite with families and take trips.

The People’s Republic of China was inaugurated on October 1st 1949. In fact, the Chinese independence day was on September 21st 1949. Many people wonder why the holiday is not on the date of independence. This is because the ceremony celebrating the Central People’s Government was on October 1st of the same year. This grand ceremony took place in Tiananmen Square. Due to this, it was declared that October 1st would be the date of this holiday.

This is a photograph of Tiananmen Square, where the ceremony took place.

  • Flag raising ceremony: The flag is raised in front of Tiananmen Square.

  • Evening Gala: At this activity, songs and dances are showcased.

Nice article. I wasn’t familiar with this festive day until I read this article. It was interesting to see that the holiday is relatively new when compared to the long history of China and Chinese culture. It must be really cool as either a Chinese native or tourist to see how many people congregate together to watch the fireworks. Also, I think that the raising of the flag and singing the national anthem at Tianmen square is really special.

Thank you for telling me about this special day! I didn’t know much about this day until now. It is cool how they have different activities different parts of the day. It was also cool to see how long it was celebrated. Maybe sometime I could see this holiday in person.

That’s very interesting. I never knew this holiday existed! It sounds and looks wonderful, and I’m sure it is very fun and also a great period for Chinese people to really appreciate their culture. I would love to visit china for Golden week in my future. I never knew about this until I read this article. I think it shows how much China thinks about its military. I think it would be interesting to see how China celebrates its independence. Actually, I think I remember seeing a large military parade on a Chinese TV show. I think this is the Chinese version of the fourth of july.

Very good article that has a lot of detail concerning national day. I hope to celebrate national day one day in China because it sounds very different to America’s national day in a good way. I thought that the day when this holiday was developed would’ve been a long time ago but, was dubbed a holiday in the 1940’s. The activities seem very interesting. Very good article.

This article was so informative about the Chinese National Day. Clearly, China is very patriotic and values freedom. It’s so interesting how there are traditions like the flag raising. These photos are all really cool. I would like to go to China someday at this time and celebrate this holiday.

Great article! I never knew about this holiday before I read it. I learned a lot things I never knew about before for Chinese National Day. It clearly shows how it is a an especially proud and fun period of time for the nation. I found it particularly interesting the duration of this holiday. It must be cool to walk around during this time of year in China to find a variety of different people celebrating or watching.

Nice article!I never knew that this a holiday before reading this article. Its also interesting that even though the founding happened on September 21 the holiday is October 1 to 7.It also has a large impact on tourism, hotel prices rise and overcrowding at some places because everyone is off for a week but it’s a massive increase in sales because foreign tourist also come during this time.

Great article. My heritage is Chinese but I never knew this holiday existed before hand. This reminds me of July fourth for America, both celebrate the people and is a great concept. It was definitely interesting reading about this article and I would love to find out more. I should definitely go visit tianming square on this day.

Wow, nice article! I actually never even knew that this holiday existed before I read. The ceremony looks very fun and maybe I’ll try to go to China around that time to check it out. A question I have is, why don’t my parents and probably other Asian families celebrate this? Overall, this was a great article. Keep up the amazing work!

Very intriguing article. Even though I am Chinese I have never heard of this holiday before until now. This is kind of like holidays that Americans have such as the 4th of July. This seems like a very exciting thing to celebrate and I hope I can see it with my own eyes one day. Great article keep up the good work.

What an amazing first article Blake! I find it very interesting how, even though the founding occurred on one day, that the Chinese people celebrate it a little over a week later. If I ever get to visit China again, I’ll definitely want to check this out. Especially as there is a military parade, an evening gala, and fireworks! I’m sure it will definitely be crowded during this time as well.

Nice Blake. I never knew there was a “national day” in China, which is obviously misleading given that it’s a whole week! It is also pretty ironic that the event devoted to the founding of the People’s Republic isn’t actually on the day that the Republic was founded. This event sounds like a lot of fun, much like July 4th here in the US. Hopefully, I will get the chance to visit China during this period of festivities. Hopefully it is not too crowded.

Wow, what an article! There is so much information in this article. I never knew about this holiday. It was very interesting to read that China’s independence is on September 21st 1949. In the future, I would want to go to China during this time to see how the people celebrate it, and the fireworks. It would also be very fascinating to see the military parade. Great article Blake!!!

Really concise article! I’m honestly surprised at how much pride and importance is held in these Chinese holiday ceremonies, as we don’t share nearly that much vigor in most of our holidays. And weeklong articles sound really fun, but I feel like that could create logistical business problems, especially for organizations that have to always be open such as hospitals or pharmacies. China probably makes a lot of money off of their tourism just during this time, but how much of that money is needed to fund the festivities, as I can’t imagine that the festivities are cheap.

This was a very interesting article! I’ve heard about Chinese National Day and how big of a celebration it is because my relatives in China post about it every year. I had no idea that Chinese Independence Day was on September 21, 1949 and People’s Republic of China was inaugurated on October 1, 1949. I;m very intrigued about this holiday now and hope that I can experience it in China one day!
