Sports in Chinese (Part II)

Here’s an expansion of last week’s post… this time with user-submitted phrases!

Feel free to check out our first sports post to familiarize yourself with the expressions: Sports in Chinese

If you missed it, the proper phrase for “to play (a sport)” is:

打(dá – to play) + [sport name].

For example, if I wanted to say “play baseball,” the proper expression would be 打棒球 (dá bàng qiú).

Hockey: 冰球 (bīng qiú)

Softball: 垒球 (lěi qiú)

Lacrosse: 长曲棍球 (cháng qū gùn qiú)

Track and Field: 田径 (tián jìng)

Field: 场地 (chǎng dì)

Credit to Jeff Chou:

網球(wǎng qiú – tennis)
游泳(yóu yǒng  – swimming)
保齡球(bǎo líng qiú – bowling)
高爾夫球(gāo ěr fū qiú – golf)

你今天下午打球吗? (nǐ jīn tiān xià wǔ dǎ qiú mǎ – Do you want to play ball this afternoon?)

We hope you find these phrases applicable! I know I use many of them on a daily basis. Leave a comment if you have any additional phrases; maybe I’ll add them!

I like play soccer. And also can be 踢 (ti-to play) +sports, such as play soccer(踢足球).
