Types of Mooncake

I’m pretty sure you guys all heard of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is on September 24th this year. When it comes to the Mid-Autumn Festival, I will always think of the mooncake. In my opinion, mooncakes are one of the best parts of this festival. Mooncakes can be made in various shapes, sizes, and colors, and there are numerous kinds of flavors we can add in the mooncake to make it appetizing. Let’s take a look at a few:

Snow Skin (雪皮)

The snow skin mooncake is also known as the ice skin or crystal mooncake. This mooncake originated in Hong Kong and is usually non-baked and kept frozen. Making the snow skin mooncake is very time-consuming; it was not popular until the 2000s.

Five Kernel and Roast Pork (五仁叉烧)

The Five Kernel and Roast Pork is the most traditional flavor compared to the other mooncakes, and it tends to be much more expensive. This mooncake is filled with mixed nuts, seeds, and roast pork; the majority of the Chinese will consider this mooncake during the festival.

Lotus Seed Paste (莲蓉)

The lotus seed paste mooncake is a very common Mid-Autumn Festival dessert for the Cantonese. Because lotus paste costs a lot, it is sometimes replaced by white kidney paste. To give the lotus seed paste mooncake a much better taste, some people might even add an egg in the middle.

Vegetable and Fruit (果蔬)

The vegetable and fruit mooncake are healthier in comparison to the other mooncakes. Vegetable and fruit mooncake can contain various types of fruits, such as pineapple, lychee, and dragon fruit. Since it’s made out of vegetable and fruit, this mooncake has a soft and smooth taste to it.

Thanks for the article, Helen! Personally, my favorite mooncake is the 莲蓉 kind, but I haven’t tried any of the others! If they add an egg in the middle, I usaully take it out. And I also agree that mooncakes are the best part of the festival. The vegetable and fruit type looks interesting. I might give it a try.

This was really good. I like the sweet filling moon cake. I have tried many such as red bean paste. I did not really enjoy it though. I do remember making a metal shield out of the top of the case a moon cake case. I haven’t celebrated the moon festival at home for many years. I do enjoy seeing the moon though.

Wow I didn’t know there were so many kinds of moon cakes. This makes me realize that I haven’t tried them all. I would really like to try the snow skin one. However I would like to point out the one my family eats which is one with a rice cake like texture isn’t on the list. But all in all a great article.

I love articles about food so much! It was interesting to see all the different types of moon cakes because I always thought there was only one type.the vegetable and fruit mooncake look super cool! I’ve only tried the lotus seed paste mooncake and it’s amazing! I can’t wait until I can try all the other types of mooncake there are. Good job on the article!

Wow, cool article! I’m getting hungry just reading! I had no idea there were so many types of mooncakes! I have tried sweet mooncakes filled with red bean paste, but a lot of the types listed above I had never even heard of. I’m really interested in trying the Five Kernel and Roast Pork mooncake (五仁叉烧) because it sounds like a fascinating savory dish. Also, the vegetable and fruit mooncake (果蔬) looks super intriguing! I hope I get a chance to try some of these in the near future! Thanks for sharing!.

This is a really cool article. I always had the sweet, classic mooncake on the Mid-Autumn festival. However, I never knew that there were so many different and interesting types of mooncakes. For example, I never knew that there was such thing as a vegetable and fruit mooncake. Also, out of this list, I would love to try the Five Kernel and Roast Pork one. Thanks for writing this article!

There are five different varieties of mooncake. They are all made with different types of ingredients for their good-tasting quality. Ingredients can range from roast pork to seed paste. The lotus seed paste is the most common. In my opinion, the fruit and vegetable one is my favorite because its made with a variety of fruits… and possibly easy to make.

I never knew about the fruit mooncakes. From experience, I do not anticipate that the skin of the dragon fruit mooncake tasting good, but I digress. I think that it is very interesting and I really like the snow skin mooncakes, as I like eating cold stuff. Great article!

This is a great article! I had no idea that there were so many different types of fillings for mooncakes. I don’t like eating mooncake, but I want to try it again because they all sound so good! It’s my first timing hearing about a vegetable and fruit mooncake too.
