Harbin Ice Festival

The annual Harbin International Ice Festival is the largest ice sculpture festival in the world, with the main ice city spanning 750,000 square meters. It’s visited by 10 to 15 million people every year and features gorgeous ice lanterns, snow sculptures, ice competitions, skiing, sledding, a group wedding, and other fun activities. World records have been broken here, with the record of the tallest ice sculpture set at 46 meters (161 feet)!

Here are some breathtaking views from previous festivals!

Visitors used kaleidoscopes placed outside to admire the ice sculptures in northern Harbin on January 4th.

A perfectly designed train sculpture! Looks exactly like a train!

Last year, a total of 11 couples from China, Russia, and Egypt participated in the group wedding ceremony organized by the city government.

One visitor rode a beautiful horse ice sculpture on the opening day of the 2018 Festival.

This year, the Harbin Ice Festival will be held from December 24, 2018, to February 28, 2019, with the opening ceremony on January 5th, 2019. Personally, I can’t wait!

Wow. It must take months to build this, only to have it all melt in the Spring and Summer. I admire the sculptors work and their dedication to the practice. Some of these sculptures look like they would take an eternity to carve out. It looks like an interesting place that I might want to visit in the future.

Looking at the title, this post seemed a little boring. But when I started reading the post, I became drawn in. These magnificent ice structures look magnificent and unreal. The tall ice towers are the most shocking to me. Thanks for posting.

Great and informative article! I never even knew that there was such thing as this festival. I wish I could be able to experience this festival one day, and get the chance to see all of these amazing and huge ice sculptors. It must take a lot of effort and time to make these ice sculptors and events. Even though this festival seems big, it doesn’t seem like many people in America are aware of this festival. Maybe in the future, this would be a festival commonly celebrated in America. I wonder how they don’t melt and stay in such a good condition.
