Time with My Exchange Student

The time that I spent with my exchange student was so valuable, and full of memories I can never forget. My exchange student, 赵淙辰 (Harry) was always full of happiness and so energetic.
The first day, Wednesday February 7, was so exciting and we clicked as soon as we met each other. I remember sitting in the middle school library and seeing their bus pull up in the front circle, that is definitely a moment I will never forget. They were greeted with a bagel breakfast and then departed for their day’s activities. The first night with 赵淙辰, was spent with Matthew Lecher, Wesley Pergament, and their families and exchange students, in which we ate at Ben’s Kosher Deli. That night was very eventful and allowed me to meet more of the exchange students, and have fun with mine.
The next two days the exchange students went to the city, so we only spent time with them at night. On Thursday, all of the Jericho students and exchange students met at Buffalo Wild Wings to have a group dinner, which allowed us to meet all of the other exchange students. We all had such a great time! 赵淙辰 and I exchanged pictures of family members, and I even introduced him to my best friend in China, 陈昱霏(Cici), and now they have become good friends. On Friday, we all went bowling. On 赵淙辰 first try ever at bowling, he got a strike! I was so excited and we celebrated with a double high five!
Over the weekend we had a lot of fun! On Saturday, we went to Syosset High School and played tennis with Avery Porges and his exchange student! We all were pretty bad but we still had so much fun. Saturday night, we saw the Chinese New Year show that was being shown at our high school, and afterward, Avery Porges, Wesley Pergament, me and all of our exchange students went for dinner at Kobe Hibachi. After that, we went to 16 Handles for dessert, it was a great night! On Sunday, we went to Round One to play in the arcade and bowl, and then went for dinner at On the Border for some Mexican food!
Monday and Tuesday were relaxing days, spent with my family. We watched movies, played games, and had dinner together. Tuesday was very sad because that was when they left. My family and I along with 赵淙辰 went out for one last dinner, and then went to the school. At the going away party, we ate dessert, took pictures, listened to speeches, and I gave him my final gift, a journal with ever day’s events and favorite moments, so that he can remember his time in America. At 8:30 we saw them off, and I was crying the entire time. I miss my exchange student so much, and cannot wait to see him again in the future, and make many more amazing memories!

This was such a nice article to read! I loved learning about the experience they enjoyed together and how they really got to bond. Spending so much time with an exchange student is truly a pleasure and it seemed like they both really enjoyed each others company. I am so glad our school opens up exchange programs for students taking Chinese!

Great Article, Dylan! I think the whole exchange program was so cool, and it was a really good experience. I actually really wanted to go to China, but I didn’t have my passport. If we still have another chance, I will definitely choose to go to China. The whole exchange program will let people learn more about the Chinese culture, and let the Chinese people learn about the American culture, and I think that should be one of the reasons that the exchange program should continue. Overall, I really enjoy reading your experience with the exchange student. Nice job!

Very nice Dylan! The exchange program sounds like so much fun, and it’s such a shame I wasn’t able to take part this year. You and Harry seemed to have connected very well and it definitely sounds like you guys had lots of fun while he was here. It is so amazing that you got to share your daily lives with each other in your respective neighborhoods. Now, you can say that you have a friend halfway across the Earth and you were able to experience what it was like to be a Chinese student, likewise to Harry. I hope you and Harry will continue to be good friends and remain in touch.

I’m so glad you had such an amazing time with your exchange student! It was truly a great experience to make friends with other students from the other side of the world. I, along with the rest of the group, had great time showing them what our day-to-day lives are like, the food we eat, and the things that we like to do. Thank you for sharing this amazing story of friendship. I’m sure Harry loved this once once in a lifetime opportunity. One day, I hope we can travel to China again as a group and visit our friends.

Your article brings back so many great memories. After we went to China it seemed that time would not pass fast enough for us to host Chinese students in New York. When the students arrived, it seemed that we were always on the go. I wished that we had more time together. Great article.
