Webull: A Growing Fintech Company

American investors pride themselves in being able to create wealth for themselves by having access to all different markets and having the ability to put their money in all different types of securities and investments. But recently in January, due to unique market occurrences, online brokers and trading platforms had restricted the buying of dozens of stocks.

Most noticeably, the app Robin was under fire for blocking the buying of stocks such as GameStop ($GME), AMC Entertainment ($AMC), and BlackBerry ($BB). This outraged hundreds of thousands of retail investors (ordinary people) and caused them to turn to other platforms that didn’t have nearly as many restrictions placed on their platforms.

A company that’s been gaining traction from the events is “Webull.” As a Chinese financial technology company founded by Wang Anquan, a former technology director at Alibaba, the company has gained hundreds of millions in startup funding and support from the media.

The company, owned by Fumi Technology, a Chinese holding company that has received backing from Xiaomi (the largest Chinese phone company), has been all over business and financial newspapers in the past few months. As an online broker, the company executes investments and trades on their platform for their clients. Even as a Chinese-owned company, Webull is an official American business which allows their users for free access to all US indexes and markets.

With their platform geared towards more beginners and investors with some experience, their design moves away from gamifying the aspect of investing, a criticism that the app Robinhood had received often.

Why is this important?

Webull has quietly built one of the fastest-growing retail trading platforms in the U.S. and its “breakneck U.S. expansion is almost unheard of for a Chinese-owned financial company,” according to SupChina. Webull is shifting the digital investment market all while bringing competition to the table as it pushes other companies to innovate. As America’s economy faces the pandemic, Chinese businesses will continue to expand in the US.

I love how you transitioned into the main topic of the article by first introducing the recent market manipulation most people are probably aware of. It’s really interesting how Chinese companies such as Webull are now taking advantage of American markets/businesses when they are at their most weak and volatile now.

I’ve heard of this app before so it was really interesting to read about its founder and information. As more young people become interested in personal finance and investing I think that many of these apps will gain traction. Thanks for the article!

  3. Isabella Martinez

I think this article flowed nicely, I never really thought about how this business could’ve changed exponentially during the pandemic. It’s interesting to hear how well this company is doing in the U.S.

This is really interesting! I have not yet heard of this app, and I know little about business, but I still really enjoyed reading this article. I’m glad that there are many potential benefits to this business, like pushing other companies to innovate. Thanks for sharing!

I have never heard of this app because I don’t know much about stocks and business but this article was great at explaining what the app is and why it’s important.

Interesting to hear how this Chinese stock app was able to take advantage of what is going on currently with the Robinhood trading app scandal! I know people who use this app, who say that it is better than robinhood. I think the concept is definitely interesting, and the way they invest money for their users are a good way to make profit. I might use this app in the future. Thanks for letting me know about it!

Very interesting article! I have never heard of Webull, a Chinese financial technology company, before reading your article. It’s interesting that the company acts like an online broker, executing investments and trades on their platform for their clients. After hearing about this company, I will definitely be on the look out for it in news articles!

Great article, Josh! I’ve definitely heard of this app before because my dad has recently talked about using this app. However, I’ve never really known about the app’s background and status in China. This really seems like it will become popular in the US and a competitor to Robinhood. Thanks for the article!

Wonderful article, Josh! Reading this article makes me want to learn more about China’s economy and its businesses because it’s obvious that it is very prevalent in our everyday lives. I haven’t heard of this company before, but it sounds intriguing. I think it’s great that they are catering to beginners because so many people are inexperienced and uneducated. Thanks for sharing!

Great article! I have been keeping up with the Robinhood controversy. I think it is great that there are new competitors rising up. With more competition, Robinhood can be more accountable to its users. Thanks for sharing!

Great article! This is one of the most talked about subjects among teens and young adults, and it’s so interesting to hear about the details. I have heard about the Gamestop controversy several times, but I have never heard about Webull. Thank you so much for sharing this important information about the Chinese and American economy.

This article was really informative. I’ve only heard of Robinhood before, so it’s quite interesting to hear about a new Chinese company gaining traction with the unique recent market occurrences. I’ll be sure to keep my eye out for Webull.

Very interesting article. I’ve never heard of this app before but now I understand how much this app impacted China’s economy.

  15. Flora Qin

Super interesting article! I’ve never heard of this app, so this was an amazing introduction for me to learn more about the benefits of investing using Webull instead of Robin. It’s also super impressive that this app has become such a popular retail trading platform in such a short time. Great job!

I’ve never heard of Webull before! It’s amazing how the company has gained hundreds of millions in startup funding. Webull’s expansion in the U.S. is very intriguing. I’ll keep an eye on its growth. This is a great article!

  17. Keira He

It is interesting that Webull gained popularity from the events of Robin blocking users from buying certain stocks. It shows that it is relatively open to allowing investors to buy from several different markets. I also agree that Chinese businesses are growing more and more internationally in the United States, and we will see this in the near future. Great article!

Thank you for sharing about Webull Joshua! I really appreciated the comparison you made between Webull and Robinhood. I think it is meaningful how Webull offers at platform easily navigable to beginners. Although I don’t know much about the investing world, I found this article very informative and engaging! I’ll be sure to check Webull out soon!

  19. Arjun Bindra

Wow! This article is really packed full of information. Thanks for helping me to get to know this company, I may start researching into it. Great article!

  20. Teran Jafari

I’m surprised this is such a huge issue, didn’t think that apps had control over what stocks investors decide to invest in or not, good thing this app is available as providing complete unrestricted freedom over what companies investors can invest in should be a given. This really shows how china is not afraid to step into a market in which there’s a lot of competition while still being able to offer a competitive gimmick that is exclusive to only their app motivating people to make the switch.

  21. Anica Singhal

It is really cool that Webull became popular because of Robin! I find it interesting how the company grew so much just because people wanted to buy stocks Robin did not allow. I also think it is cool how different countries influence each other’s economies! Good job!

  22. Douglas Chen

Great insight into we bull. It’s alarming to see the control brokerages, especially big ones like robin hood, have on retail investors and the stock market in general. It’s pretty ironic considering robin hood’s tagline is democratizing finance for all, when in this case they limited access to the markets for their largest audiences. However, I’m glad to see other brokerages coming into the sector and giving more options to investors, making the their control less extensive.

  23. Blake Mayourian

This is a great article Josh. I have been following the news that you discussed in your article. Since Webull offers many benefits similar to Robinhood, such zero commission, some users believe that Webull is a good alternative. The growth of retail investors during this time allows for Webull to continue to grow.

  24. Leon He

    这篇文章真的很酷! 我听说过这家公司,对此了解不多。 我喜欢这项业务的潜在收益,例如创新。

  25. Brendan Shek

First and foremost, I really liked the way you opened your article and how you gradually transitioned into the main topic. I’ve never heard of Webull before, but it definitely shows a lot of promise in innovating the trading sector. Webull also has very few flaws so it’s definitely one of the best trading sites currently available.

  26. Daniel han

This was a very interesting article! Im not really into the finance part of apps but it was still very interesting to read.

  27. Andrew Lee

This was a very interesting article as am not too familiar with the different markets and putting money in other types of securities. It is also interesting how the online brokers and trading platforms have stopped the trading of several; stocks. I had heard about how Robin had blocked the buying of stocks such as GamStop and AMC. This article was very informative, and also showed both perspectives of the issue in a cohesive way.

  28. Lucas Weinholtz

Great article. I’ve actually recently started to gain an interest in stocks, and I was thinking about trading on Webull. It was very informative to learn about the different features and abilities of the app and to also learn about its history and how it came to fruition.

  29. Tyler Lin

I remember learning about the name webull somehow. I might have found out about it through an advertisement or something but I never really understood what the company did, This is really interesting how stock trading apps such as Robinhood are able to control the market so easily with their actions.

  30. Catherine Liu

I’ve heard of this app before but didn’t know what specifically it’s used for. It’s interesting to see Webull gaining more traction and people turning to it to escape from the restrictions Robinhood has placed on their platform. Webull is also smart for taking advantage of the American market to boost their own business. Thanks for sharing!

  31. Umair Syed

This was a fairly interesting article. I have never heard of Webull before but you made it easy for me to understand what it is. I think it’s nice how Webull is less restrictive than Robinhood. Maybe this competition will make Robinhood lose money and have to make their app less restrictive if they want to get users.

  32. Josephine Soong

Wow, I never thought of the pandemic as a way for Chinese businesses (among other international/foreign businesses) to expand into the U.S.! I’ve never heard of Webull before, but it seems like it’s gaining much traction in the U.S. with its startup funding and its media spotlight. It’s pretty amazing that users get free access to all the U.S. markets. Thanks for sharing, Josh!

  33. Camryn Yum

It was nice learning about a new app. I’m not really into stocks but this article was very informative about it and nicely detailed.

  34. Jonathan Cheng

Great Article! I’ve never heard of Webull before this article and I like their more professional and traditional approach to the online stock buying market, unlike Robinhood.

  35. Morgan Park

Great article! I know about everything that has happened with GameStop and AMC, but I never heard of Webull, so it was interesting to read about it. In this day and age where everything is becoming electronic, this article is very helpful as it gives a little glimpse as to how the world is changing. Great job

  36. Oscar Yan

I’ve heard of this app before and I found it really interesting. Reading about its founder and its purpose really increased my knowledge. I think this is a very needed app because of how apps such as Robin Hood took advantage of the people. I think this kind of app is the future. Thanks for the article!

  37. Grace Zhang

Great article! I learned so much from your writing. I have heard of Webull before, but I didn’t know too much about it until I read your article. It’s really interesting to see the shift Webull is making in the digital investment market.

  38. Ryan Lam

This was a very interesting article Joshua. I remember hearing about the dramam with Gamestop and other companies, but I didn’t know about Robinhood. I also never heard about the company Wedbull before. From what you wrote, Wedbull seems to be the better alternative compared to the other apps and I will ask my mom about it because she likely knows a lot about this, I feel like Wedbull is more user friendly and trustworthy.

  39. Yaseen Ahmad

This article is very informative and has helped me out tremendously! As someone who is interested in the stock market and many others, I have been looking forward to trading software that is compatible to invest in and safe. I believe that Webull is what I have been looking for considering all the recent attractions it has been getting and how it is one of the fastest-growing retail trading platforms in the United States. Thank you!

  40. Ethan Zhu

This article was very good Josh! I’ve never heard of Webull before this article and I like their more professional and traditional approach to the online stock buying market. The growth of retail investors during this time allows for Webull to continue to grow. Keep up the good work!

  41. Renee Lin

thank you for the article. I feel like stocks have been on the rise recently in terms of people participating. My parents and their friends never even looked at stocks but recently its all they’ve been talking about. Therefore I think webull is very fitting for this day and age.

  42. Norman Pang

I have heard of Webull from advertisements on youtube. You can get a free stock when you get a referral link and deposit 100 dollars! What I didn’t know is that the founder is Chinese and the company is backed by Xiao-Mi, which I am very similar to as it is a tech giant in China. Very interesting stuff and I hope everything goes well for Webull.

  43. Adil Kadirov

I have used Robinhood for a 3 months until I took my profit out and put it in TD Ameritrade. I have to admit Robinhood is not with helping the average person and rather looks out for other hedge funds. We need new brokerages to change others brokerages like Robinhood with their carelessness with average people. After the reddit invasion into GME and AMC, Robinhood lost many customers due to their poor coordination of the stocks. Now Webull will hopefully get new customers and learn from the mistakes made by other Brokerages.

  44. Dylan Patel

Great article. I think that the stock and trade industry is very corrupt and robinhood, an app which was supposed to help the average person, cutting off orders for GME and AMC and Nokia because their owners would lose was a prime example. I hope new brokerages such as this one will eliminate more corruption.
