What to do in China this summer?

China is a reservoir of natural resources, beautiful landmarks, and thousands of years of history. Although seemingly daunting to travel in China, it is definitely worth the trip. Out of the countless places to visit, here are 3 must go places for everyone to enjoy.

1. The Bund, Shanghai (外滩 wài tān)

This Shanghai attraction is a must-see for any tourist. Its Chinese name is 外滩, wài tān, which translates literally into “outer beach.”  For a child to even a great-grandparent, The Bund is a great place to see. For example, you can take breathtaking photos, take a cruise, shop in the most luxurious shops in the world, or even enjoy the night scenery. Most importantly, The Bund is not only a tourist attraction but also a place where locals conduct their daily activities. For a tourist, this is the best of both worlds since they can see the lifestyle of Chinese people while enjoying the oasis-like view.

2. ZhangJiaJie National Forest Park

This beautiful park is just one example of China’s awe-inspiring landscape. Its natural beauty and scenery are bound to make one gasp. Although that seems corny, it really is true. There is only one place like this in the world – the home to countless species of animals and vegetation. Personally, I am grateful for a place like this that protects 18 rare species listed on the International Trade Treaty. Lastly, this park is actually the scenic destination the movie Avatar was shot in. If you want to witness natural beauty like no other, be sure to visit this destination.

3. The Forbidden City, Beijing

The Forbidden City is a vessel, packed with Chinese history. Back then, the emperor was deemed as a “ son of Heaven,” so the palace was considered a divine place. As a result, it was forbidden for ordinary individuals to enter, thus earning the name “The Forbidden City.” Originally the imperial palace for 492 years, it was the home of 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. These emperors enjoyed the city containing 980 buildings and over 8,700 rooms.

There are so many other great places to visit, but these are my all time favorites. If you are interested in learning about other must-see attractions, be sure to visit this website.

Very informative article! I’ve heard of these places in China before and have visited The Bund and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park before. I visited the Bund at night, so the night view was beautiful. I also went on a cruise ship while I was visiting. I visited Zhangjiajie National Forest Park the last time I went to China and the scenery was breathtaking. The next time I go back to China, I will definitely try to visit The Forbidden City in Beijing!
