Yellow Mountains (黄山)

You may have already known about some popular tourist destinations in China, such as the Great Wall of China or the Forbidden City. Today, I am going to introduce you to another attraction you may be interested in, which is the Yellow Mountains that are located in the Anhui (安徽 Ānhuī)province in Eastern China.

The Yellow Mountains are considered as one of the most famous mountain ranges in China. In 1990, it was listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It’s called the Yellow Mountains because they were named after the Yellow Emperor (黄帝 Huángdì), who is the mythical ancestor of the Chinese people.
Two popular characteristics of the Yellow Mountains are the seas of clouds and the hot springs. The seas of clouds contribute to the overall ethereal appearance of the other mountains; they cause the mountain peaks to appear as if they are islands floating in the sky. The hot springs allow tourists to relax after hours of climbing. They were discovered more than a thousand years ago, and it is believed that the Yellow Emperor (黄帝) became younger after bathing in the hot spring.

In addition to beautiful clouds and a soothing hot spring, there are countless other aspects of the Yellow Mountains that add to its charm. These include, but are not limited to, oddly-shaped rocks, unusually named pine trees, and gorgeous sunrises. If you ever visit Eastern China, don’t forget to make a trip to the Yellow Mountains!
