流浪地球- The Wandering Earth

流浪地球, otherwise known as the Wandering Earth, has recently become a top-grossing hit in China. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, with rapant weather conditions and disastrous effects, this sci-fi questions what humans will do as the sun’s light begins to dwindle. Their solution, however, is what makes this movie so unique: to move the Earth. Scientists believe that by repelling the Earth out of the Solar System, they could save what’s left of the human race.

Directed by Frant Gwo, this hit was originally based on Liu Cixin’s novel with the same name. However, audiences regard the movie and book to be different. Though the basic stories are the same, their plots are overall pretty different. Reactions of civilians and situations faced on Earth, alongside disasters encountered in space are severely altered, and although the book was massively loved, the film is still considered to be a huge success.

Very interesting article Avery! At first, I thought that it was a move about going to mars. This was because the plot of the story was that the earth was inhabitable. This resulted in them having to move, literally. I was really surprised that their plan was to move to earth. I hope they can do it. This was a cool article.

This was very interesting! At first, I was very confused about what this was from the beginning. I then realized that this was supposed to be a movie! I think that it looks interesting and I might check it out soon. I wonder how good it is since it became a hit in China. This was really interesting and helped me find another movie to check out!

Very cool Avery. This seems like a promising movie. Although the event probably isn’t probable, it does make for a good storyline. I find these scientific movies to be especially interesting, like The Martian. I will have to check this book out. I will also watch the movie.

This movie I had heard of multiple times, I have not yet seen it but people have said to be very good. A couple of years ago I read the trilogy by Liu Cixin called The three-body problem which is massively different from the movie. There is no sun expanding, although the sun has some role in the series, there are warring alien civilizations which ends up in the destruction of our solar system. Pretty complicated but overall great fun to read.

Love the article. I’ve heard of the movie before, and I’m planning to watch it soon. The premise is intriguing; moving the earth?! It makes us wonder whether this is technically possible with the technology in the future. As thought-provoking as it is, I’m excited to see whether its execution does justice. Thanks for sharing, Avery!

Wow, great article. I never heard of this movie, but it sounds very interesting. I myself like sci fi, and I think I will love this movie because it goes beyond the boundaries. That aspect of it makes the movie sound very interesting. This article also leaves me in a state of awe as to what humans can think of. Thank you for sharing Avery.

An amazing article on an intersting movie. The movie looks like a blast to watch even if I myself haven’t seen it. Sci Fi was always a very intersting movie genre to nail because depending on the movie can become confusing . The movies plot and storyline are very interesting indeed . This movie really pushes the boundaries for movies to come in terms of storyline. Very good article.

Nice article. I’ve never heard of this movie but ill be sure to check it out. In all the sci-fi I’ve seen I’ve never heard of moving the earth out of the solar system so it must be very interesting. I’m also excited because this along with crazy rich Asians are getting Chinese movies and actors more into the spotlight. I will also check out the book this is from if there is an English version.

What an interesting concept Avery! From doing past research for TDC, I have learned about Liu Cixin’s success and how his success has spawned a renaissance of Chinese sci-fi literature. I heard plans that he was developing a movie that was supposed to be the Chinese’s answer to Star Wars and this looks to be just as incredible as promised. What an interesting idea–moving the earth to save it from the sun. I wonder if this will be economically feasible one day. Perhaps a sequel to this movie is in the works. When my host student visited me, he was reading Liu Cixin’s novel and I was so proud of myself for knowing what he was reading. Perhaps he has seen the movie too. I will go ask him. Great article!

Nice job, Avery! This was really interesting to me. I never would have thought to move the earth out of the solar system. I honestly think this is great movie concept. In a couple hundred years, we will probably make this a reality. That in itself is really crazy to me. I might have to go check this movie out.

This is so cool Avery! It’s so interesting to see how China is tackling this post-apocalyptic situation. It really gives a good insight of what humanity could happen and would do in the future. The solution humanity offers during this time of crisis is intriguing because it’s an idea that I don’t think many people would think that it’s scientifically possible. This trailer seems amazing, and I hope I can watch it one day. Moreover, I will definitely find time to read Liu Cixin’s novel because I love sci-fi literature and it’s just interesting to read.
