Jade Rabbit – Katelyn Ma

Have you heard the story of the Jade Rabbit? One day, the Jade Emperor disguised himself as a poor man and begged for food. While other animals gave him fruit and fish, Rabbit was only able to collect grass. So, he sacrificed himself into a fire. But the Jade Rabbit didn’t burn. The Emperor revealed himself and rewarded the Rabbit by sending him to the moon, becoming the immortal Jade Rabbit. He accompanies the goddess Chang’e in the Moon Palace. The Jade Rabbit is a symbol of selflessness and sacrifice.

Great article! I am a little familiar with the story of the Jade Rabbit from experience in Chinese class. I was not aware, though, that the Jade Rabbit is a symbol of selflessness and sacrifice. After reading this, it makes sense that that is what the Jade Rabbit symbolizes. His selflessness and sacrifice is exemplified when he gave himself up to the fire expecting to burn. This story is a really great example of what it means to be a good person.

Very interesting article! I have heard of the Jade Rabbit before, but I didn’t really know the story behind it. The Rabbit was so nice for giving his own life up in order to feed the man. It really shows how he puts others over himself. I think more people need to hear about this story. Thank you for sharing!

Wow what an interesting story. I’ve never heard of this story before and I’m really shocked that the rabbit would make such a sacrifice for a beggar. I think that it is important to be selfless at times and the Jade Rabit clearly represents that. I wonder how this story was developed long ago. Thanks for sharing.

Cool article! I have actually heard of the Jade Rabbit and some of the story. I knew how it was a symbol for selflessness. The story makes sense with the Jade Rabbit putting others before it. I think the story should be told to a lot of people. I think that it is good how he was rewarded.

This is a very interesting article! During my 8th grade Chinese class, Ms. Chao taught us a little bit about the story. This is a very good story that teaches people to be selfless and giving. In the story, Jade rabbit symbolizes selflessness. I love how Jade Rabbit’s act of giving was rewarded. Thank you for sharing!

Nice article! Every year in Chinese class, we talk about the Mid-Autumn festival and why it is celebrated. However, up until this year, we did not read the story of the Jade Rabbit. I only knew that he was with Chang E in the moon. This article goes into detail about his story and how he became the Jade Rabbit, which I only vaguely knew about before. After reading this story, I now understand why he is a symbol of selflessness and sacrifice.

This article is very interesting. I never knew or heard of such a story, but it sounds really cool. I like Chinese legends and how they tie in to the theme of why they were made. I also like how the main animal or person in Chinese legends always symbolize or represent things or ideas. Thank you for sharing.

Great artwork, Katelyn! I love this story. It’s a reminder to always be selfless and considerate regardless of the receiver. The rabbit and Chang E are usually seen in the moon: Western cultures usually say there is a face of a woman while Eastern cultures see it as a rabbit. Additionally, I love the details you put into your art! Keep up the amazing work!
